Sources, method and corrections

Every price range and rule on this site names where it came from and the day we read it. This page lists those sources, explains how we gather DFW price data, and tells you how to report an error. It applies to the Dallas AC installation guide and to the disclosure.
Rules we write by
- Every cost figure carries its source and the date we read it. We publish no cost figure of our own until our quote log holds at least twelve dated DFW quotes for that cell; until then the site shows published ranges from named sources and says so.
- Regulatory statements (efficiency minimums, refrigerant rules, licensing, permits, incentives, tax) name the authority and, where we could not confirm the current text on the authority's own site, carry a "verify" mark.
- No invented people. There is no named reviewer on this site yet; when a TDLR-licensed contractor or a mechanical engineer reviews a section, their name and license appear on it and nowhere else.
- The last-reviewed date changes only when the content changes.

Common questions about our sourcing
Why does the site publish other people's price ranges instead of its own?
Because a price we have not gathered is a guess. Our rule is at least twelve dated DFW quotes for a given system size before we publish a figure as ours. Until the quote log reaches that, we show what named DFW contractors and cost publishers have put in print, with the date each page carried when we read it.
What does the "verify" mark mean?
That we could not confirm the current wording on the authority's own website, usually because the page is a PDF, a portal or behind a form. The statement reflects the best available source, and you should confirm it with the authority named before you rely on it.
Why is there no named reviewer?
Because we have not recruited one. A byline from a licensed contractor or mechanical engineer appears only when a real person has reviewed the section, and never before.
